The Flood, the Book and Me.

The book. It's been an obsession with me all year and now at last it seems like we're just a few weeks away from having hard copies in hand. The Menopause Plan will be out soon and I can't wait to share it with my friends, patients and colleagues.

The bigger story for the last eight months has been the Giant Upheaval. Imagine if you will, a mid-block, 12 story Manhattan office building filled with medical offices and very busy. On a holiday weekend in the depths of winter in this building a water pipe bursts and proceeds to flood the building for an entire day until all the offices are ruined. When people return to open for business after the holiday they discover that in fact they are out of business. That was the nightmare scenario that greeted me on the coldest day of the year. Instead of seeing patients we wet vac'ed for hours, moved medical equipment to high ground and lifted records to safety beyond the rising water's reach.

For months we could only see existing obstetrics patients and emergencies as we scuttled from one location to another. Thanks to the kindness of a friend and colleague we quickly re-located to #903 Lexington Avenue at East 68th Street where we've been ever since. Things only quieted down in September and now I have some breathing space to write, share my thoughts and do what I do best, practice medicine. And yes, finish the book. I'm so happy The Menopause Plan is in the final pre-publication stage and I'm already working on the next one. Thanks to everyone who helped through these difficult times especially Fab and Aie.
